Situation Report 1 – Low Pressure System impacting islands in the Lesser Antilles (October 4, 2010, as of 4.00p.m)

Message:
Heavy rains cause severe flooding in Barbados and landslides in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  Flood Watch remains in effect for Antigua and Barbuda.

Situation Report #1 – Tropical Storm Tomas impacts Barbados, strengthens to Category 1 Hurricane and impacts Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Dominica

Message: Tropical Storm Tomas impacts Barbados, with winds of near 70 miles per hour; strengthens to a Category 1 Hurricane and impacts three other CDEMA Participating States.

Event: Tropical Storm Tomas, a very strong tropical storm, made landfall in Barbados at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday October 30, 2010 with maximum sustained winds of near 70 miles per hour with higher gusts. The centre of the storm passed 20 miles south of Barbados, strengthened to a Category 1 Hurricane and moved northwest, impacting the states of Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Dominica. The all clear for Barbados was issued today, Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. while the other three states remain on Hurricane Warning.

Situation Report #2 Hurricane Tomas severely impacts Saint Lucia and caused damage to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados (as at 2:00 p.m.)

Message: Hurricane Tomas severely impacts Saint Lucia, causing major destruction to infrastructure. Barbados and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines also experienced significant damage due to Tomas.


Event
Hurricane Tomas, a Category 1 hurricane, began affecting Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines about 12:00 p.m. on Saturday October 30, 2010 with maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour with higher gusts.

Situation Report #3 Hurricane Tomas - Saint Lucia declares a national disaster and disaster areas declared for some areas of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (November 1, 2010 as of 12.00 noon)

Message: The Government of Saint Lucia has declared a national disaster and national disaster areas have been declared for sections of St. Vincent and the Grenadines following the passage of Hurricane Tomas over the weekend.

Event: Tomas, the nineteenth named storm of the season formed southeast of the windward islands on the afternoon of October 29, 2010. At 5.00pm Tropical Storm warnings were issued for the following countries: Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago and these were upgraded to Hurricane warnings by 11.00 pm on October 29.
