Ecological Disaster Area Declared for Layou River Valley, Dominica

Situation Report # 2 - As of Friday July 29, 2011 4:00 p.m.

The Event:
The Mathieu Dam collapsed yesterday July 28, 2011, at around 12:30 a.m. causing substantial damage to roads, infrastructure, agriculture and utilities. As a result, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has declared an ecological disaster area in the Layou Valley.

Situation Report – Tropical Storm Emily Dumps Heavy Rains on CDEMA Participating States but Minimal Damage Reported

Message: Tropical Storm Emily moved slowly through the Caribbean region during the period July 29 to August 4, 2011 bringing heavy rains to the Eastern Caribbean and also southern Haiti. Heavy rains caused flash floods and landslides, but overall, minimal damage and no deaths were reported.

Tropical Harvey forms west of Belize and two other systems developing in the Atlantic

The National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL is advising that tropical Storm Harvey is located 16.3 North, 84.2 West or about 285 miles ESE of Belize City. Harvey is moving toward the west near 10 miles per hour.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles. Additional strengthening is forecasted before the center of Harvey reaches Belize.

Situation Report #1 - Tropical Storm Harvey makes landfall in southern Belize (as of Saturday August 20, 2011 at 9.00 p.m. EST)

Message: The centre of Tropical Storm Harvey made landfall near the Town of Dangriga at approximately 12:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. EST), with maximum winds of around 60 mph. All clear declared at 5.00pm local time.
