Message: Hurricane Irene a Category 1 storm is impacting the Turks and Caicos Islands.  Hurricane warnings are in effect for southeastern, central and northwestern Bahamas

Hurricane Irene has begun to impact the Turks and Caicos Islands. At 5.00 p.m EST Hurricane Irene, now a Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale was located near latitude 20.9 north and longitude 71.5 west with maximum sustained winds near 90mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts.

Information Note: Tropical Storm Maria to begin affecting Leeward Islands – As of 5:00pm Friday September 9, 2011

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, as of 5:00 p.m. today the center of Tropical Storm Maria was located near latitude 14.8 north and longitude 58.6 west or about 125 miles NE of Barbados.  Maria is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph and this motion is expected to continue during the next day or so.  On the forecast track the center of Maria will reach the Lesser Antilles early tonight and Saturday and be near the Virgin Islands by Saturday night.  Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts.  Gradual strengthening is possible during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles mainly to the northeast of the center.

Information Note #1: Tropical Storm Ernesto to begin affecting Leeward Islands tonight – As of 5:00pm Thursday August 2, 2012

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, as of 5:00 p.m. today the center of Tropical Storm Ernesto was located near latitude 12.8 north and longitude 56.6 west or about 295 miles E of Barbados and the Windward Islands.  Ernesto is moving toward the west-northwest near 22 mph and this motion is expected to continue during the next 48 hours.  On the forecast track the center of Ernesto will reach the Lesser Antilles by late tonight or early Friday morning.  Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts.  Gradual strengthening is possible during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the center.

Information Note #2: Tropical Storm Ernesto moving away from the Windward Islands – As of 11:00 a.m. Friday August 3, 2012

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, as of 11:00 a.m. today (Friday, 3/8/12) the centre of Tropical Storm Ernesto was located near latitude 13.7 North and longitude 62.3 West or about 90 miles west of Saint Lucia. Ernesto is moving towards the west near 21 mph and this motion is expected to continue over the next two days. On the forecast track Ernesto will be moving across eastern and central Caribbean Sea during the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 85 miles from the center. Little change in intensity is expected today but some strengthening is forecasted thereafter.
