7.0 HAITI EARTHQUAKE UPDATE #3 CDEMA Coordinating Pledges of Aid for Haiti


THE EVENT:

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake located 18.451°N, 72.445°W struck the island of Haiti on Tuesday January 12th, 2010 at about 5:53 PM Atlantic Standard Time (AST). According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck 15 km (10 miles) South West of Port-au-Prince at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). Aftershocks are still being felt.

Three die in Dominica Landslide

Situation Report # 2 (Update) - Tuesday, May 25, 2010 as, at 12.00 noon
Three persons died yesterday in a landslide in Bayside, San Sauveur, Dominica.  The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) reported that on Monday 24, 2010 at approximately 8.45 a.m, a landslide triggered by heavy rains overnight buried a house and claimed the lives of a 43 year old man, a 76 year old woman and a 6 year old boy. ODM has informed that the bodies have been taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where autopsies will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Situation Report 1 - Tropical Storm Alex impacts Belize

Message:
Tropical Storm Alex causes heavy rains throughout Belize with pockets of gusty winds exceeding 40 mph. Initial economic losses estimated at BZ$2.5m.

Event:
The first Tropical Cyclone of the 2010 Atlantic Basin Hurricane, Tropical Storm Alex made landfall along the coast of Belize on Saturday June 26, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. TS Alex moved WNW at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, storm surge of three to five (3-5) feet and rainfall of four to eight (4-8) inches were forecasted as the System moved inland.  The ‘All Clear’ for the system was issued at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, 27 June 2010.
