Roshelle Pinnock

University Of Technology, Jamaica Caribbean Girls Hack Alumni 2019

Roshelle Pinnock is a humanitarian, technologist, explorer and thinker. She believes in and works to sustain the ideals of justice, democracy and human rights; and have over the years focused her outreach on promoting those principles especially among marginalized groups. Roshelle is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems at the University of Technology, Jamaica where she is also quite involved in the debating society.

She has represented her university in several local and international debating tournaments in Europe and North America including the Worlds Universities Debating Championships (WUDC) in the Netherlands (2017) and Mexico (2018). In March 2019, she was awarded the 10th Best Speaker in the Pan American region by the Pan American Universities Debating Championship held in Panama. Her zeal for outreach has led her to volunteer with the Debate Mate Programme, where she teaches debating to at-risk youths in volatile communities in Jamaica and advocates for innovation and youth involvement in driving growth and development. Roshelle’s career vision is the contribute to greater levels of sustainable development through improving the IT infrastructure and tech ecosystems of Jamaica and the Caribbean.

Roshelle is a member of the UTECH Winning Team of the Caribbean Girls Hack (CGH) 2019 #GirlsinICT Day Jamaica, awarded First Place for the tech solution “Green Dream” addressing climate change and resilience. As a result, she was also awarded the Spectrum Management Authority CGH Summer Internship 2019 at eGov Jamaica Limited. During the CGH Summer Internship, she worked as an Agile Coach where she monitored software development processes and trained project teams in the implementation of agile methodologies to improve software quality and time-to-market. Currently, Roshelle serves as a Country Chairperson for the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN) in Jamaica, where she leads a team responsible for designing and implementing projects geared towards peacebuilding and violence prevention. She enjoys bringing people together to impact change and engaging different stakeholders to respond to global challenges.
