Situation Report #1 Tropical Depression # 7 impacts Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica, Saint Lucia and heads towards Belize (as at 5:00 p.m.)

TD 7 degenerates into a tropical wave and impacts Windward Islands Saturday August 11, 2012.

Event

The National Hurricane Center anticipated Tropical Depression # 7 to reach the Windward Islands late Saturday Night or Early Sunday Morning, August 11 and 12. The prediction was for the depression to intensify to a Tropical Storm and this prompted Tropical Storm Watches for the countries of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. By the 11:00 am advisory from the National Hurricane Centre TD#7 had degenerated into a tropical wave. Squally weather was still expected in the islands during the period.

Tsunami Watch for Caribbean cancelled

The public is asked to note the cancellation of the Tsunami Watch issued today, September 5, 2012 at 10.45 a.m for the Caribbean by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC). The Tsunami Watch was issued in error by the PTWC following a 7.9 magnitude earthquake off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Click here for details.

CDEMA Situation Report #1 - Hurricane Sandy

Message: Sandy, strengthened to a Category 1 Hurricane is affecting Jamaica. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica, central and northwestern Bahamas. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Haiti and a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the south-Eastern Bahamas (as of 5.00 p.m. October 24th, 2012).

Message: Sandy approaching the Central Bahamas. Damage Assessment Teams out in Haiti and Jamaica Sandy

THE SITUATION:
At 11.00a.m the center of Sandy, a Category Two Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale, was located near latitude 22.4 degrees North and longitude 75.5 West or about 65 miles South SouthWest of Long Island and 85 miles South SouthEast of Great Exuma Island , Bahamas . Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane force winds extend outwards up to 30 miles and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles from the center.
