Message: At 12:00 p.m. today (August 2nd 2016) Tropical Storm Earl became the fifth named storm of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

THE SITUATION:
At 2:00 p.m. (EDT) the center of Tropical Storm Earl was located near latitude 16.3 North and longitude80.8 West or about 210 miles (340km) South of Grand Cayman. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85km/h). Tropical storm strength winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km). The system is moving toward the west at 22 mph (35 km/h). This motion is expected to continue over the next 48 hours with some decrease in forward speed.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) in Grenada reported feeling tremors from a 5.7 magnitude earthquake, which occurred 88.0 km east of Carupano, Venezuela and 105.0 km west of San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago this morning. The NaDMA in Grenada also confirmed that there were no reports of any damage but will continue to monitor the situation. Please click here for further details.

Several Participating States in the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) system have been placed under immediate drought watch or warning for 2016. The drought situation remains a major concern for many countries due to the below-normal rainfall recorded during the previous dry and wet seasons, which resulted in a number of countries experiencing water shortages in 2015.
