The MOC is aimed at strengthening collaboration in Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction (WDRR) and Water Resource Management. Additionally, it will foster cooperation in areas such as climate change adaptation, early warning systems, integrated water resources management, and knowledge exchange.
It will also create opportunities for research, project implementation, and the application of innovative technologies. The Partnership reflects the shared challenges faced by Japan and the Caribbean, including floods, coastal impacts, water shortages, and the need for effective utilization of limited water resources.
"The signature of this Memorandum of Cooperation deepens the longstanding partnership between CDEMA and the Government of Japan and reinforces our shared commitment to building resilience to water-related hazards in CDEMA Participating States,” said the agency's Executive Director, Elizabeth Riley.
She further acknowledged that the two sides are investing in resilience and charting a course towards a safer, more sustainable future.
