SITUATION OVERVIEW:
Relief and recovery operations are ongoing across Jamaica as the Government continues to lead national response efforts in providing support to affected communities. The Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) continues to facilitate the arrival of both commercial and humanitarian flights delivering relief supplies. The Government has deployed helicopters to transport medical personnel and deliver substantial quantities of relief items to isolated communities.
SITUATION OVERVIEW:
Relief and recovery efforts are progressing in Jamaica following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which caused widespread damage across several communities. The Government of Jamaica, through the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), has activated national response mechanisms to provide immediate assistance to affected communities. Emergency shelter operations, debris clearance, and the distribution of food, water, and medical supplies are ongoing.
SITUATION OVERVIEW:
Hurricane Melissa has begun to move away from the Caribbean region, allowing weather conditions to gradually improve across several territories. All hurricane and tropical storm watches and warnings have been discontinued for The Bahamas, Jamaica, the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), Haiti, and the Cayman Islands. Relief operations have begun across the affected islands. However, lingering heavy rainfall in the affected States could impact the ability to support relief and recovery operations.
