Bridgetown, Barbados, September 27th, 2016 – As a number of the Participating States of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) brace for the pending impact of a tropical weather system, the Agency has once again taken the lead to coordinate the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM). To this end, CDEMA in collaboration with the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) convened a pre-strike meeting of the Eastern Caribbean Development Partner Group (ECDPG) at 12:00 noon today, Tuesday September 27, 2016, to plan for possible scenarios in preparation for the impact. Partner agencies who are members of this group including regional and international donors and development partners are monitoring the system.

Bridgetown, Barbados, 3rd March, 2017-The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency Coordinating Unit (CDEMA CU), with support from the European Union (EU), through the Strengthening of the Capacity of the CDEMA Coordinating Unit and Participating States for Implementation of Comprehensive Disaster Management project is inviting National Disaster Management Offices (NDMOs) and relevant national agencies, responsible for CDM implementation, to apply for use of the Country Directed Fund.

Guadalajara, Mexico, September 14th, 2016 (CDEMA) – The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is the recipient of a Silver Medal award which is shared with the Institute for Development in Economics and Administration (IDEA International). The award was sponsored by the International Development Bank (IDB) and presented during the IX International Seminar of the Sub-National Governments Network (CoPLAC) held in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on September 8th, 2016. Both entities were nominated for the ‘Second Competition in Management for Development Results (MfDR)’ and were placed second in the ‘MfDR in Sectors’ category.

Bridgetown, Barbados, 9th September, 2016 (CDEMA) - September 9th, 2016 marks twenty–five (25) years from the date that the CARICOM Heads of Government, in recognition of the fragile economies and ecosystems of the States within the Caribbean region being extremely vulnerable to natural and man-made hazards, demonstrated the foresight to establish a regional CARICOM Mechanism for emergency response and disaster relief.

Bridgetown, Barbados, August 16th, 2016 (CDEMA) – 32 participants from the disciplined forces, including police, military and fire services, successfully completed four days of training in preparation for their role in providing relief and humanitarian assistance in the event of a disaster. The annual training workshop of the CARICOM Disaster Relief Unit (CDRU) was held at the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency’s (CDEMA) headquarters in Barbados from August 8th to 12th 2016.
