Wednesday 13th April, 2011 marks thirty-two years since the La Soufriere Volcano erupted in 1979, displacing about 20,000 persons on mainland St. Vincent.  The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in collaboration with the Soufriere Monitoring Unit and the Seismic Research Centre, UWI St. Augustine Campus will launch a number of activities this week in an effort to heighten the awareness of the general public on volcanoes and other seismic hazards.


Bridgetown, Barbados, March 21, 2011 (CDEMA) - A full scale simulation tsunami alert exercise will be undertaken within the CDEMA system on Wednesday March 23, 2011. Exercise CARIBE WAVE 11 will assess the Tsunami and other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions and the Model Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) for the Tsunami and other Coastal Hazards Warning System developed for CDEMA Participating States.

Bridgetown, Barbados, March 14, 2011 (CDEMA) - Emergency management personnel and geo-spatial experts in the CDEMA Participating States  are being trained in the practical use of satellites for emergency mapping. They are also reviewing RADAR products of the 2010 hurricane season as part of their preparations for improved access to real-time data and products during the upcoming season.
