(August 19, 2011) During this week- August 16 -19th 2011, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) has put in place several processes which will enhance NEMO’s ability to effectively deliver disaster management service in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Bridgetown, Barbados, August 23, 2011 (CDEMA) – Developing “climate smart” comprehensive disaster management (CDM) programmes will be the focus of an interactive two-day workshop being held over the next two days, August 23-24, 2011, at the Department of Disaster Management, Tortola, Virgin Islands.

Bridgetown, Barbados, August 15, 2011 (SOPAC; CDEMA) - Common threats based on similar geography and vulnerabilities of small islands, have been a major influence on the increased cooperation between the Caribbean and Pacific Regions.

Two of the major players in this developing relationship are SOPAC, a division of SPC, and CDEMA (Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency).

[August 4, 2011 – Auckland, New Zealand] A Caribbean delegation is attending the Pacific Platform meeting this week in Auckland, to exchange experiences and best practices with colleagues from across the Pacific region.  The similar geography, climate trends and limited size of populations of small island states in both regions creates similar challenges for disaster risk management.
