Bridgetown, Barbados, 9th September, 2016 (CDEMA) - September 9th, 2016 marks twenty–five (25) years from the date that the CARICOM Heads of Government, in recognition of the fragile economies and ecosystems of the States within the Caribbean region being extremely vulnerable to natural and man-made hazards, demonstrated the foresight to establish a regional CARICOM Mechanism for emergency response and disaster relief.

Bridgetown, Barbados, August 16th, 2016 (CDEMA) – 32 participants from the disciplined forces, including police, military and fire services, successfully completed four days of training in preparation for their role in providing relief and humanitarian assistance in the event of a disaster. The annual training workshop of the CARICOM Disaster Relief Unit (CDRU) was held at the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency’s (CDEMA) headquarters in Barbados from August 8th to 12th 2016.

St. Johns, Antigua, July 29th, 2016 (CDEMA) – The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) is currently conducting an inter-agency exercise aimed at strengthening the regional and global coordinating mechanisms for disasters in the region.

Bridgetown, Barbados, May 30th 2016 (CDEMA) - Children and residential and day nursery officers of the Barbados Child Care Board were actively involved in a full scale exercise to test their level of readiness in the event of a disaster. The exercise was held last Thursday on the grounds of the Nightingale Children’s Home in Black Rock and included a fire and an earthquake drill. Technical teams from the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), the Barbados Fire Service, the Royal Barbados Police Force and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) facilitated the exercise.
