Bridgetown, Barbados, August 15, 2011 (SOPAC; CDEMA) - Common threats based on similar geography and vulnerabilities of small islands, have been a major influence on the increased cooperation between the Caribbean and Pacific Regions.

Two of the major players in this developing relationship are SOPAC, a division of SPC, and CDEMA (Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency).

[August 4, 2011 – Auckland, New Zealand] A Caribbean delegation is attending the Pacific Platform meeting this week in Auckland, to exchange experiences and best practices with colleagues from across the Pacific region.  The similar geography, climate trends and limited size of populations of small island states in both regions creates similar challenges for disaster risk management.

Bridgetown, Barbados, July 25, 2011 (CDEMA) - The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) will host a series of consultations over three days, July 27-29, 2011, in Barbados on the regional Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Programme. The regional stakeholders and other key partners meetings are geared towards reviewing the CDM implementation mechanisms and identifying appropriate actions for promoting acceleration of CDM integration into all policies, programmes, plans and ongoing activities at national and community levels.
