Trinidad Disaster Office hosts 3rd Meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Committee (NDRRC)

Trincity, Tacrigua, March 6, 2013 (ODPM) - The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) hosts its 3rd National Disaster Risk Reduction Committee Meeting to re-iterate strategies and initiatives developed after the adoption the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) 2000. This strategy calls for inter-disciplinary involvement to coordinate, guide and implement Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), as such it requires close coordination with strategic disaster management institutions toward setting synchronised objectives.

Fifty four (54) representatives have been invited to attend including the Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago, The Ministry of Housing, The Ministry of Local Government and several other key agencies in Disaster Risk Reduction. The event will take place on Thursday March 07, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinidad Hilton Hotel & Conference Centre, Port of Spain.

The meeting will be preceded by a a brief press conference at the beginning of this event, which overviews discussions on the ODPM’s Let’s Get Ready Awareness Activity Week, the Readiness in all Phases of the Caribbean Disaster Management (CDM) Cycle, Current Projects in Disaster Risk Reduction, Review of the CDM Proposal and the National CDM Plan.

Stakeholders attending the meeting will discuss in more detail the Let’s Get Ready Awareness Activity Week, which the ODPM will initiate the installation of Tsunami signs on Monday 11th March, 2013 on popular beaches within Trinidad and Tobago. All activities precede the ODPM’s Let’s Get Ready Fair 2013 carded for Saturday March 16th 2013, at Trincity Mall Carpark, which invites the public to learn about Earthquake/Tsunami preparedness, the ODPM’s stakeholders and will allow public viewing of interactive displays from all participants with free admission and entertainment.
