Today, 1st June marks the beginning of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The forecast from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued on the 24th of May, 2012, indicates that this year there will be a near-normal hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin. The projection is that there’s a 70 percent chance of nine to 15 named storms, of which four to eight will strengthen to a hurricane and of those one to three will become major hurricanes.

Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, May 8, 2012 (NEMO) - During the course of the morning, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) received several calls from concerned persons and Media houses enquiring if the la Soufriere volcano was erupting. Some callers indicated they have seen smoke coming from the la Soufriere while others indicated that they were smelling sulphur.

Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, November 10, 2009, (NEMO) - The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) will conduct a workshop on the establishment, operations, management and administration of Emergency Operation Centres, this Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd July, 2010.  This training workshop is a collaborative initiative between NEMO and the US Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance under the Latin American and Caribbean (OFDA/LAC) Programme.
