NEMO to participate in the "Caribbean Tsunami Warning Exercise" to test the draft Tsunami Warning Protocols for St. Vincent and the Grenadines & the Crisis Communication Plan (CCP) & Disaster Contingency Plan (DCP) for the Ministry of Tourism

Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, March 11th, 2016 (NEMO) - On Thursday March 17, 2016, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) will join the rest of the region in participating in the annual “CARIBE WAVE/Lantex 16 Simulation Exercise.

As part of our local participation, NEMO will host a one-day orientation exercise to test the Draft Tsunami Warning Protocols for St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Crisis Communication Plan (CCP) and Disaster Contingency Plan (DCP) for the Ministry of Tourism, during the “Caribbean Tsunami Warning Exercise”

The exercise will provide the opportunity for all first responder organizations to drill and practice their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for a tsunami. It will also provide the opportunity for the key stakeholders within the Ministry of Tourism to practice their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Tsunami response.

The Radio Data System (RDS) will also be tested as part of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Emergency Warning System during the ‘Caribbean Tsunami Warning Exercise’

The exercise will commence at 8:30 a.m. at NEMO’s Conference Room.

The “Caribbean Tsunami Warning Exercise” is being conducted to assist tsunami preparedness efforts throughout the Caribbean region. Recent tsunamis, such as those in the Chile (2010, 2014, 2015), and Japan (2011), attest to the importance of proper planning for tsunami response.
