Teachers and other stakeholders to receive training in school safety procedures, 16-18 July, 2013

Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, April 12, 2013 (NEMO) - Teachers and other stakeholders, on mainland St. Vincent will receive training on the techniques to design, implement and evaluate safety plans for Schools during a three day workshop which commenced today at the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) Conference Room.

The School Safety Course will expose participants to the concepts of disaster risk management. Participants will also be given information on the key activities to promote and implement a school safety plan, the benefits of emergency management preparedness in school, simulations and drill for schools, and the role of education in risk management.

The School Safety Course targets teachers at primary and secondary school levels and is organized by the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in conjunction with the Ministry of Education with technical support by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Organisation (CDEMA) under the CARICOM Brazil Cooperation - Living Schools Project.
