Teachers and other stakeholders to receive training in school safety procedures, 8-10 April, 2013

Kingstown, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, April 5th, 2013 (NEMO) - Teachers and other stakeholders, in Bequia will be given the opportunity to hone their knowledge and techniques to design, implement and evaluate safety plans for Schools. This will take place over a three day period during a school safety course to be held by the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) commencing on Monday 8th April, 2013 at the Bequia Anglican Primary School.

The School Safety Course will expose participants to the concepts of disaster risk management. Participants will also be given information on the key activities to promote and implement a school safety plan, the benefits of emergency management preparedness in school, simulations and drill for schools, and the role of education in risk management.

The School Safety Course targets teachers at early childhood, primary and secondary school levels and is organized by the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) with technical support by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Organisation (CDEMA) under the CARICOM Brazil Cooperation - Living Schools Project.

The course will be at the Bequia Anglican Primary School, beginning at 9:00 am each day.
