The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) on Wednesday warned that a serious earthquake in Jamaica is overdue, saying that the country has not had a major tremor in 100 years - the limit for the return period, according to scientists.

KINGSTON, Jamaica, May 7, 2008 (JIS) - Tourism and disaster management stakeholders across the Caribbean are collaborating to implement the Regional Disaster Risk Management for Sustainable Tourism in the Caribbean Project by June 2010.

Under the project, a Regional Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Strategy and Plan of Action for the Tourism Sector will be developed, through the collective input of regional and national tourism and disaster management interests.
