Georgetown, Guyana , Ocotber 15th, 2013 (CDC) - The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) in collaboration with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), the National Commission on Disability (NCD), Habitat for Humanity Guyana and the Civil Defence Commission Volunteer Corps (CDC VC), conducted a community registration drive for persons living with disability in Klien Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, Region #3 on Sunday October 13, 2013.

Georgetown, Guyana , Ocotber 8th, 2013 (CDC) - The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) in collaboration with The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), the Civil Defence Commission Volunteer Corps (CDC VC) and the National Commission on Disability (NCD) conducted a workshop on the Introduction to Disaster Risk Reduction and Persons Living with Disability on Monday October 8, 2013 at the Guyana Red Cross Building. UNICEF provided the financial support needed for the execution of this workshop.

Georgetown, Guyana , June 24th, 2013 (CDC) - The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) continues to extend its mandate of promoting Disaster Risk Management (DRM) across Guyana. During the second half of 2012 (July – December) the CDC conducted DRM training with representatives from six (06) of the ten (10) administrative regions of Guyana. The representatives from regions 1, 3,4,6,7 and 10 benefited from training in Shelters and Shelter Management, Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (DANA), and Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Management. Four hundred and twelve persons gained immensely from these training. The CDC is now poised to complete the regional DRM training with the remaining four (04) administrative regions (2, 5, 8, and 9) during the period June – August, 2013.

Georgetown, Guyana , June 12th, 2013 (CDC) - The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) conducted a successful workshop on the draft Integrated Disaster Risk Management Plan (IDRMP) at its Thomas Lands, Headquarters in Georgetown on June 11, 2013. The development of an IDRM Plan and Strategy for Guyana comes under Component 2 of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funded project: Strengthening National and Local capacities for Integrated Disaster Risk Management. The workshop’s objectives were to present the IDRMP and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to offer comments and suggestions for the document, according to Deputy Director General, CDC, Col Francis Abraham.
