Launching of the CDC volunteer corps in Region Nine (09)- Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo

Georgetown, Guyana , November 19th, 2013 (CDC) - In an effort to ensure the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) successfully achieves its mandate, the Civil Defence Commission Volunteer Corps (CDC VC) with financial assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has extended its membership to include persons from Region 9 (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo).

On Wednesday 13th November 2013, the CDC VC Officially launched its Region 9 arm. The registered members comprising persons from North, South and Central Rupununi, were issued their CDC VC Pins along with the CDC VC branded Polo Jerseys and hats. The Region 9 members also elected a three (3) member management committee comprising a Coordinator (Mr. Richard Rennie), Deputy Coordinator (Mr. Alister Charlie) and a Secretary (Ms. Kateri Joseph). These persons will be responsible for the routine management of the Region 9 arm of the CDC VC.

The CDC VC has in excess of two hundred (200) registered members. The CDC VC intends to officially establish itself in all ten (10) administrative regions of Guyana. Thus far, this has been done in Regions 4, 6 and 9; with plans to have official launching in the remaining regions within the next twenty four (24) months.

The CDC VC works towards assisting the CDC in achieving its mandate of promoting Comprehensive Disaster Management nationwide while at the same time building the disaster risk management capacity of all Guyanese. The CDC VC is focused on working with communities across Guyana.
