Roseau, Dominica, October 13, 2011, (Office of Disaster Management) - By resolution 64/200 dated dec 21, 2009 the United Nations General Assembly designated October 13th (every year) as the date to commemorate “International Day For Disaster Reduction”.  This particular resolution superseded resolution 44/236 which recognized the second Wednesday in October as “International Day For Natural Disaster Reduction”.

Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands (October 13th 2011) - Each year on October 13th, International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) is celebrated around the world with a goal of raising awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction(DRR), and is a call for singular global action. This year’s theme is “Making Youth Partners for Disaster Risk Reduction”. While natural hazards are on the rise, more and more people also suffer from the related catastrophes, with children among the most traumatized with some 66 million children affected every year.

Roseau , Dominica, June 7, 2010 (Office of Disaster Management) - The Commonwealth of Dominica is observing HAZARD WEEK from June 7th to 11th 2010; The programme of activities for the week includes a radio address by the Honourable Minister Charles Savarin, Minister for National Security, Immigration and Labour and under whose portfolio the Office of Disaster Management falls; Various talk shows will be held during the week both on radio and television where various agencies and institutions from the Public, and private sector and the NGO's and civil society will take part.
