BVI, BVI, January 29th, 2013 - The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) in conjunction with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA); under the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States-European Union (ACP-EU) project will be having a community meeting in Anegada on February 4 at 4pm at the Emile Dunlop Community Center. This meeting, which is a follow-up activity to the CERT Training that was held in November 2012, seeks to develop a Community Disaster Plan for Anegada.

Government of BVI (GIS), BVI, October 29th, 2012 - The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Coordinating Unit, with financial support from the Enhancing Resilience to Reduce Vulnerability in the Caribbean Region (ERC) Project is hosting a stakeholders meeting to discuss the data needs for the DEWETRA Platform and how it can be used within the Caribbean context.

Tortola, VI, October 11th, 2012 (DDM) - The Virgin Islands will join the rest of the world in observing International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR) on Friday, October 12, under the theme “Step Up for Disaster Risk Reduction”.

IDDR is a day which encourages every citizen and government to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations. It is a day to celebrate how people and communities are reducing their risk to disaster and raising awareness about the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction. The Step Up initiative started in 2011 and each year has been focusing on difference group of partners. This year we will recognise the contribution of Women and Girls the [in]Visible Force of resilience.
