DDM, British Virgin Islands held course in Radiotelephone operation and procedures

Tortola, BVI,July, 17 2009 (DDM) – On 16th July the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) awarded 11 persons certificates of completion after a two day course in VHF Radiotelephone Operation and Procedures.

The objective of the course was to teach participants how to operate the VHF handheld properly, as well as teaching participants internationally recognized VHF Radiotelephone operating Procedures and Practices. It was also designed to teach proper radio phraseology, operation and procedures at the basic level. After completing the course participants should have the confidence in operating a VHF Radiotelephone under disaster conditions.

Emergency Communications Officer, Jasen Penn was pleased with the level of enthusiasm expressed by participants and hoped that the knowledge received would encourage them to further explore other areas of communications. The VHF Radio Course is held annually. This year, a second session is being offered at the Department from 30th – 31st July 2009.
