The Valley, Anguilla, February 10th, 2014 (Department of Disaster Management) - The Department of Disaster Management, under the auspices of the National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC), is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Annual Risk Reduction Recognition Award. The NDMC in its continuing quest to build a safe nation is again partnering with Platinum Sponsor, Alliance Insurances Services, in recognizing outstanding and innovative initiatives and measures in the advancement of Disaster Resilience and Mitigation on Anguilla, by private/volunteer organizations.

The Valley, Anguilla, March 21, 2013 (Department of Disaster Management) - The CaribWave 2013 Tsunami Exercise was held on the 20th March 2013 and focused on the potential impacts of a short impact tsunami wave. The principal aims of the exercise were the evaluation of the abilities of the Anguilla Warning System and the evacuation procedures developed by exercise participants for a short impact tsunami event.

16 September, 2010 – Today, the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) paid the Government of Anguilla US$4,282,733 following the passage of Tropical Cyclone Earl which passed close to the island on 30 August, 2010. This amount was due to the Government based on its catastrophe insurance policy for hurricanes which forms part of the country’s disaster risk management strategy. The value represents almost 20 times the annual premium of US$225,000 that the Government pays for hurricane coverage. Anguilla has been a member of CCRIF – and has had catastrophe insurance policies for earthquakes as well as hurricanes – since the inception of the Facility in 2007. The fifteen other Caribbean member countries joined Anguilla in renewing their CCRIF policies for the new policy year that began on 1 June, 2010.

The Valley, Anguilla, September 10 2010 - (CDEMA) – A CDEMA technical team paid a courtesy call on Anguilla’s Governor, H.E. Alistair Harrison and the Deputy Governor, Mr. Stanley E. Reid on Thursday, September 9, 2010.  The team accompanied by Director and Deputy Director of the Department of Disaster Management briefed the Governor and Deputy Governor  on the activities of the  Disaster Risk Management Sub-regional Programme being funded by the ACP-EU.

The Valley, Anguilla, February 3, 2008 (Department of Disaster Management) - The Essential Services Sub-Committee of the National Disaster Management Committee has been working through the Department of Disaster Management over the past year to conduct a series of courses designed to enhance the search and rescue capabilities of first responders in Anguilla.
