March is National Preparedness Month

The Valley, Anguilla, February 24th, 2015 (Department of Disaster Management) - 2015 marks a number of disaster related anniversaries in Anguilla. To commemorate these milestones the Department of Disaster Management has designated March as National Preparedness Month.

This first time event spanning the month of March aims to mobilize the Anguillan Community into thinking about the hazards they face. Pointing them to where they can get locally relevant information on the history and likelihood of hazards affecting Anguilla; and how they can prepare for them, so as to lessen their potentially destructive impact.

Disaster preparedness can be easy. While it is often perceived as a huge effort, it is the little things you can do that add up to being better prepared for any type of emergency.

Preparedness should be year round. In that spirit, the DDM is offering 31 ideas for you to consider in 31 days. The ideas can be done in a week or all in 1 day!

31 ways to prepare in 31 days tips will be aired on Radio Anguilla and UpBeat Radio. A leaflet containing all 31 tips will be made available as well as other informational leaflets from the Department of Disaster Management and various business places around the island.

Your dedication to preparing your home and family helps build a stronger, more resilient community. Disaster preparedness is everyone’s business.
