CDEMA intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this financing towards engagement of an Individual Consultant to Develop a National Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Policy for the Repblic of Trinidad and Tobago

CDEMA intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this financing towards engagement of an Individual Consultant to Develop a Multi-Year Country Work Programme for the Republic of Trnidad and Tobago.
Bridgetown, Barbados January 12th, 2021 (CDEMA) – The CDEMA Coordinating Unit has received funding from the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UK FCDO) in the amount of £51,000 through the Memorandum of Understanding on the ‘UK Support for the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Response Teams programme’. The funds will cover the cost of a rotary helicopter aircraft, which will be used to support access to sampling of the extrusive materials, air lifting equipment to the flanks of the volcano, surveillance/reconnaissance to analyse changes in the volcano and other relevant support to the monitoring of the volcanic activity.
On 29th December 2020 the alert level for the La Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines was elevated to Orange because of increased activity at the site. The volcano has had an effusive eruption, with visible gas and steam eruption and the formation of a new volcanic dome. The Volcano continues to exude magma on the surface and gas emissions can be observed from the Belmont Observatory. The small crater lake has almost evaporated, and the dome has grown. A UWI Seismic Research Centre team is currently in St. Vincent to support monitoring and data collection and analysis.

Bridgetown, Barbados December 31st, 2020 (CDEMA) – The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is closely monitoring the ongoing situation at the La Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The volcano is exhibiting signs of increased volcanic activity and an effusive eruption has been confirmed at the site. The threat level for the volcano has therefore been elevated to Orange.

to ooze to the surface and the dome has increased in size.

The alert level for the La Soufrière volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines has been elevated to Orange because of increased activity at the site Monitoring systems, satellite imagery and visual observations have confirmed increased seismic and fumarolic activity, strong gas emissions, emergence of a satellite dome on the SE of the existing volcanic dome and changes to the crater lake An effusive eruption within the crater, with visible gas and steam, was also observed on 29 th December 2020.
