CDEMA’s Legacy Project successfully implemented in Antigua and Barbuda post Hurricane Irma

Bridgetown, Barbados, May 31st, 2018 (CDEMA) – In the Aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, which significantly impacted the islands of the Caribbean in September 2017, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) launched the “CDEMA Legacy Project”. The aim of this project is to support the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Turks & Caicos Islands, which were severely impacted. In light of this, emphasis is placed on assisting single, female-headed families, the elderly, and persons with physical and mental challenges.

CCRIF Scholarship Programme
Provides scholarships to individuals to pursue a masters degree in hazard/disaster related disciplines at Caribbean universities (other than UWI) as well as institutions the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.

Regional Internship Programme
Provides opportunities for university graduates who have specialized in the areas of disaster risk management, environmental management, actuarial science, geography, climate studies and other similar areas to be assigned to national and regional organizations for practical work assignments.

Call for Papers: Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction 2019

The purpose of this Call for Papers is to encourage additional research investigating the contributory factors to our understanding of the creation and propagation of disaster risk, as well as the conducive conditions and impediments to the prevention of its formation, its reduction and the strengthening of the resilience of societies.  Research will inter alia provide insight into the genetics of risk creation and propagation, identify good practices in managing risk, highlight the impacts of disaster risk reduction measures at all scales, and explore what drives risk perception and behavior.

Education, child protection DRM partners learning together from 2017 devastating hurricanes

Officials from the education, child protection and disaster management sectors from 14 Caribbean countries joined development partners in Barbados this week to discuss the lessons learned from last year’s devastating hurricanes and strategize how to position the education sector to guarantee continuation education and protection in future impacts.

CDEMA presents telecommunications equipment to NODS

St. John, Antigua, May 9th, 2018 (NODS) - The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) is the recipient of a number of solar powered telecommunications equipment, thanks to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

The presentation includes a satellite phone, a Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) terminal, which can transmit broadband wireless voice and data communications almost anywhere and solar panels.
CDEMA’s Communication and Education Specialist Clive Murray handed over the items to Director of NODS Philmore Mullin.
