Partnerships essential to building regional resilience to disasters

Bridgetown, Barbados July 24th, 2017 (CDEMA) – The importance of partnerships in building a more resilient region against the impact of disasters was the highlight at the official launch ceremony of the 10th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM10). CDEMA Situation Report #1 - Tropical Storm Don - as of 12:00pm on July 19th, 2017

SUMMARY

Tropical Storm (TS) Don, the fourth named Storm for the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season formed near the Windward Islands on July 17, 2017. TS Don impacted Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and sections of Trinidad and Tobago during Tuesday night, July 18, 2017. TS Don accelerated westward as it approached Grenada around 8:00pm at a speed of 23 mph (37km/h) and brought maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65km/h) with higher gusts.

THE SITUATION

According to the National Hurricane Center, Miami Florida, as at 11:00pm (AST) Tuesday July 18, 2017, TS Don degenerated to an open wave over the far southeastern Caribbean Sea.

CDEMA Information Note #2 - Tropical Storm Don - as of 5:00pm on July 18th, 2017

Message: Tropical Storm Warning still in effect for Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Tropical Storm Watch discontinued for Barbados and Saint Lucia.

The Situation:

The latest advisory issued by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida at 5:00 PM AST (1200 UTC), shows the center of Tropical Storm Don located near latitude 11.7 North, longitude 60.0 West. TS Don is about 135 miles southeast of St Vincent and about 120 miles east-southeast of Grenada.

CDEMA Information Note #1 - Tropical Storm Don - as of 8:00pm on July 17th, 2017

MESSAGE: Tropical Storm Don formed east of the Windward Islands. Tropical Storm Warning issued for Grenada and Tropical Storm Watch issued for Barbados, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

THE SITUATION:

On Monday 17th July 2017, Tropical Storm (TS) Don formed east of the Windward Islands. According to the latest advisory issued by the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, as at 8:00pm (AST), TS Don was located near latitude 11.2N and longitude 53.8W, which places it about 405 miles east-southeast of Barbados and about 515 miles east of Trinidad. TS Don is moving at maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour.
