A Virtual Crisis Room to answer man-made and natural disasters in the Caribbean

Bridgetown, Barbados, November 16th, 2016 - The Caribbean is not isolated from the impact of man-made and natural disasters, as the impact of Hurricane Matthew demonstrated recently. The Caribbean region’s increasing vulnerability to these threats demands a coordinated approach from its regional organizations. With the aim to improve their current coordination mechanisms and to establish a virtual crisis room, regional experts from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (CARICOM IMPACS) and its two subagencies the Regional Intelligence Fusion Centre (RIFC) and the Joint Regional Communication Centre (JRCC) along with the Regional Security System (RSS) converged at a series of workshops.

Vacancy Notice - EKACDM, UWI, Mona - Initiative Associate - Deadline, November 18th, 2016

The "Enhancing Knowledge and Application of Comprehensive Disaster Management (EKACDM)" Initiative is a five-year project whose ultimate outcome is the implementation of the 2007 CARICOM Enhanced Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Strategy and Programme Framework.
