Trincity, Tacarigua, January 24th, 2013, (ODPM) - The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre has launched its 3rd Annual National Primary Schools Quiz in January 2013. Students have already started to become disaster ready by preparing essays in which they identify ways of preparing themselves and families in the event of a disaster. These essays will be judged by a panel of experts and eight schools will be chosen to participate in the final round on Tuesday 26th February 2013.

The meeting was chaired by Shyankaran Lalla, Chairman of the National Building Codes Committee.

The 6th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management officially ended on Friday December 09. This annual conference which has been positioned as an important forum for local, regional and international disaster risk management advocates and professionals, featured professional development sessions, stimulating plenary sessions, an exciting youth session and debate, an interesting High Level Session, film festival, a conference tour which assessed the dynamic of the vulnerabilities of Trinidad’s west coast, exhibition hall, poster display and a 20th Anniversary Awards ceremony which celebrated the contribution of five individuals whose leadership and commitment have significantly influenced the development of disaster management in the region.
