Cruise Lines help Saint Lucia get back on track, reports Prime Minister PDF Print E-mail

Castries, Saint Lucia, November 8, 2010 ( Saint Lucia Tourism Update) - Cruise liners which sailed in support of Saint Lucia's communities affected by Hurricane Tomas were thanked by the island's Prime Minister yesterday.

The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association and its member lines quickly restored cruise business in the wake of the October 30 hurricane and also shipped in humanitarian assistance for affected Saint Lucians.

Castries, Saint Lucia: (NEMO) - 24 Hours after the “All Clear” was issued following the passage of Hurricane Tomas, Saint Lucia is currently in damage assessment and initial response mode. Several aerial reconnaissance flights reveal large areas affected by swollen rivers, landslides from excessive rainfall and damage caused by high winds.

St Vincent to receive training in how to assess damage after a disaster PDF Print E-mail

(OECS Secretariat, Castries, St Lucia) - A team of officials from the OECS Secretariat will lead a three-day training session next week in macro-economic damage assessment in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The national training workshop will be held from Wednesday October 6 to Friday October 8, and is targeted at senior public officials who work in finance, tourism, agriculture, education, health and housing sectors in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The training team will comprise a combined team of staff from the OECS Secretariat and UNECLAC, Trinidad and Tobago.

Friday, February 26, 2010 – The ministry of health is stepping up its efforts to ensure Saint Lucia employs the best infection prevention practices, as the country continues to grapple with the effects of drought-like conditions.

Senior Medical Officer in the ministry of health, Dr. Merlene Frederick says, Saint Lucians must become more conscious if the country is to emerge from this water crisis healthy.

Dr. Frederick says apart from the obvious and general hygiene practices that were highly promoted during the H1N1 epidemic, such as washing hands often, and thoroughly, there are new considerations to be implemented in all sectors of the society.
