Health ministry implores Saint Lucians to practice proper hygiene practices as drought-like conditions persist |

Friday, February 26, 2010 – The ministry of health is stepping up its efforts to ensure Saint Lucia employs the best infection prevention practices, as the country continues to grapple with the effects of drought-like conditions.
Senior Medical Officer in the ministry of health, Dr. Merlene Frederick says, Saint Lucians must become more conscious if the country is to emerge from this water crisis healthy.
Dr. Frederick says apart from the obvious and general hygiene practices that were highly promoted during the H1N1 epidemic, such as washing hands often, and thoroughly, there are new considerations to be implemented in all sectors of the society.

CASTRIES, St Lucia, January 20, 2010 – St Lucians have been put on warning that the island is being threatened by the possibility of a drought.
Citizens have already been put on notice that in coming days, they will be affected by shortages in their water supply as authorities attempt to conserve and manage the depleted stock of water at various catchment sites.

Castries, Saint Lucia, January 14, 210 (CDEMA) - On behalf of the Government and People of Saint Lucia, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) would like to invite donations for the ‘Haiti Earthquake Aid Appeal Fund’ which is being launched to provide assistance to Haiti. This fund will serve as the official fund for Saint Lucia. Our Haitian brothers and Sisters were severely impacted by the Earthquake of January 12, 2010 and are in dire need of our help.

Castries, Saint Lucia, September 9, 2009 (NEMO) - September 9, 2009 marks fifteen years since Tropical Storm Debby struck Saint Lucia. Tropical Storm Debby, was the fourth named storm of the 1994 Atlantic hurricane season. Debby lasted only two days, reaching peak winds of 70 mph before being sheared apart on September 11. Despite the short duration, however, the heavy rains and gusty winds from Debby managed to cause nine deaths.
