Anegada chosen as pilot community under ACP EU funded project |

Tortola, VI, August 11, 2010 (DDM) - The Anegada community has been selected as a pilot for community interventions under the Disaster Risks Management Sub-regional Programme being funded by the European Union and executed by CDEMA.
This project, referred to as the African Caribbean Pacific European Union (ACP EU) project, is geared towards enhancing the human safety level of populations and reducing the social, economic and environmental costs of natural disasters.

Low probability oil spill in Gulf could affect territory |

Tortola, VI, June 11, 2010 (DDM) - The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is closely monitoring efforts to contain the thousands of barrels of oil, as well as gas, spewing into the gulf of Mexico for nearly two months although there is a low probability that the Virgin Islands is under any threat.

DDM Director attends CDEMA Technical Advisory Meeting in Bahamas |

Tortola, VI, May 26, 2010 (DDM) - This week the Director of Disaster Management, Ms. Sharleen DaBreo is attending the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) in Nassau, Bahamas.
This is the first meeting since the transition from CDERA to CDEMA in September last year and is being hosted by the Government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

Emergency warning systems to be installed at critical facilities |

Tortola, VI, May 19, 2010 (DDM) - Engineers from viaRadio Corporation are in the Territory to commence the installation of warning devices within a number of critical facilities including schools, police stations, clinics, national parks posts and fire stations.
The new components will offer an alerting system which provides almost instantaneous messaging to persons who are indoors and are unable to hear the outdoor sirens located throughout the Territory.
