Hurricane Irene has begun to impact the Turks and Caicos Islands. At 5.00 p.m EST Hurricane Irene, now a Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale was located near latitude 20.9 north and longitude 71.5 west with maximum sustained winds near 90mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts.

Message: Tropical Storm Harvey has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression as it leaves Belize and moves across southern Yucatan. Tropical Storm Irene passes south of Saint Kitts and Nevis, threatens the Lesser Antilles as it moves towards Haiti (Hispaniola).

The National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL is advising that tropical Storm Harvey is located 16.3 North, 84.2 West or about 285 miles ESE of Belize City. Harvey is moving toward the west near 10 miles per hour.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles. Additional strengthening is forecasted before the center of Harvey reaches Belize.

Tropical Storm Emily moved slowly through the Caribbean region during the period July 29 to August 4, 2011 bringing heavy rains to the Eastern Caribbean and also southern Haiti. Heavy rains caused flash floods and landslides, but overall, minimal damage and no deaths were reported.
