One of the specific roles of the CDM CHC is to provide policy and technical guidance for the management of the CDM database. The CDM database is web-based and archives data on disaster management activities (past, ongoing and planned) in the Caribbean region. At the inaugural meeting of the CDM CHC it was decided that the CDM CHC will provide policy guidance for the development and maintenance of the database and a sub-committee be formed to provide technical guidance for the further development of the database.

The overall function of the CDM Database Sub-Committee is to provide the CDM CHC with strategic and expert technical advice relating to the development and operation of the CDM database.

More specifically, the CDM Database Sub-Committee will be required to:

  1. Provide technical and strategic input and guidance for the further development and maintenance of the CDM database in terms of its structure, functions and operations;
  2. Provide technical and strategic input and guidance to maintain the quality and integrity of records on the CDM database;
  3. Serve as a review panel for all functional and structural changes of the database;
  4. Serve as a review panel for technical documents relating to the database;
  5. Make technical and strategic recommendations to the CDM CHC on opportunities for enhancing and sustaining the database;
  6. Make technical and strategic recommendations to the CDM CHC on mechanisms for sustaining routine population and updating of records by stakeholders;
  7. Assist and advise the agency in planning and implementing training activities on the CDM database;
  8. Report to the CDM CHC on technical, functional and policy matters relating to the CDM Database
  9. Prepare trend analysis reports on the CDM Database
  10. Publicize the CDM Database regionally
