The appointment is made by Her Majesty by Letters Patent as advised by the Lord High Chancellor of England who, before tendering such advice, will consult with the Heads of Government of the Member States of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. The Heads of Government have appointed a committee known as the Search Committee to invite, receive and vet applications and make recommendations to the Heads of Government for suitable candidates for the office of Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
