The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is undertaking the project implementation in partnership with the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) and with additional support from the University of the West Indies, the University of Guyana and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre.
This project is a follow up to an earlier IDB Regional Public Good Initiative which developed a Regional DRM Strategy and Plan of Action for the Tourism Sector. Under this second project which ends in 2013, actions will be taken to facilitate the adaptation of the strategy and develop the standards and protocols for information monitoring, evaluation and reporting. It will also address the development and enhancement of national databases, data collection systems and mechanisms for the identification of data availability and gaps and ways to fill those gaps.
National Stakeholders in the tourism sector across ten (10) confirmed Participating States will be engaged in the development of the tools and mechanisms to ensure their suitability and applicability.
The project is also designed to ensure that the M&E System is well incorporated into or compatible with existing systems such as the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s (CTO’s) Management Information System for Tourism (MIST). The final step is a plan for sustainability from a financial, capacity building and public awareness perspective.
The launch takes place at the Barbados National Stakeholder meeting and remarks will be provided by a number of senior officials including Jeremy Collymore, the Executive Director, CDEMA, Mr. Joel Branski, the Country Representative from IDB, the Ms. Gail Henry on behalf of the Secretary General, CTO and Ms. Shelley Carrington the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Tourism Barbados.
