8th Annual Caribbean Conference on CDM returns to Kingston, Jamaica

 

The Honourable Noel Arscott, Minister of Local Government & Community Development, Deputy Chair CDEMA Council of Ministers who will be addressing stakeholders at the conference is optimistic that the forum will provide for continued talks on resilience, to include public-private partnerships that can aid infrastructure development, disaster risk transfer management, economic development and planning, social investment and development planning.

The conference will convene under the theme “CDM for Resilient Development: A Good Investment” and will bring together approximately 300 professionals in the fields of disaster risk reduction and disaster management including high level international humanitarian actors and regional and local ministerial representation.Executive Director, CDEMA, Ronald Jackson in discussion with The Honourable Noel Arscott, Minister of Local Government and Community Development at the Launch of the 8th Annual Conference for Comprehensive Disaster Management at the Spanish Court Hotel, Kingston Jamaica, on Wednesday September 4, 2013

The premier event which was also held in Jamaica in 2012, aims to foster discussions and share experiences that can lead to the development and strengthening of partnerships for economic and social investment in the region. In addition, the activity will provide an opportunity for the launch of the Caribbean Strategy on CDM 2013-2023, review and enhance the CDM Strategy Implementation plan, examine the benefits of investment in CDM and facilitate dialogue on opportunities for investment among regional and international stakeholders.

Other subject matter to be tabled at the conference include Public-Private Partnerships: A Catalyst for Resilient Investment, insuring for resilience, resilient critical infrastructure, economic losses and resilient recovery, building resilience through financial and economic development planning, constructing and de-constructing resilience and reducing agricultural losses through sound investment choices.

The forum will also include an exhibition, youth session, film festival and conference tour.
