The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is pleased to announce the staging of the 9th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management, which is being held at the Melia Nassau Beach Resort, Bahamas from November 30th – December 4th. CDM 9 will be convened under the theme: "The Road to Resilience: Checkpoint 2015”.

2015 will be an exciting year for the conference. As the theme suggests, this forum will be our first checkpoint for reporting on the progress made after two years of the implementation of the 2014-2024 Caribbean Comprehensive Disaster Management Strategy as we aspire towards the desired future state of regional resilience. Consequently, a number of new initiatives will be unveiled. These include the Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) Framework for the CDM Strategy 2014-2024 and the baseline study. Together, these tools will provide decision-makers with information related to progress, gaps and lesson learnt in the implementation of CDM. The conference will also create a space for reflection on the progress of CDM over the last 10 years.

About the CDM Conference

The Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management is the region’s premier event on disaster risk management. Organized by the Coordinating Unit of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the Conference is our region’s largest gathering of professionals in the fields of disaster management and professionals from sectoral and thematic fields who have specific responsibilities in this area. Attending this event is an excellent opportunity to improve disaster risk management awareness and exchange information on good practices, while building stronger professional networks.

Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) is the Caribbean's regional contribution to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. In that regard, the Conference is a regional event of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) global platform and is structured to promote good practice, share ongoing research and chart the way forward for the advancement of CDM in the Caribbean.
