Dr John Twigg

Dr. Twigg has worked in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and international development for more than 25 years; specifically, in the academic, NGO and consultancy sectors. He has carried out research on many aspects of DRR, including: socio-economic vulnerability; disability and DRR; community resilience and community-based DRR; vulnerability and risk assessment methodologies; policy and institutional aspects of disaster management; post-disaster recovery; early warning systems; urban resilience; and project planning and evaluation.

Dr. Twigg gained his Doctorate of Philosophy in History from the University of Cambridge, UK in 1983 and has since developed several publications. His current projects surround the promotion of safer buildings, urban crises learning partnership and shelter self-recovery following humanitarian crises.
