Floods Trigger Partial Activation of Trinidad and Tobago National Emergency Operations Centre – Situation Report 1 – as at 2.00pm , November 17, 2014

MESSAGE: Flooding in several communities across Trinidad and Tobago (TT) resulted in partial activation of the National Emergency Operations Centre

THE SITUATION:
Trinidad and Tobago has been experiencing continuous rainfall from November 13 -16, 2014 which has resulted widespread flooding in several communities. Water levels in the larger rivers such as the Caroni river and smaller river courses particularly in North Eastern and Central Trinidad over spilled the banks.

Climate Change Adaptation plan being created for Sea Cow's Bay

Tortola, British Virgin Islands, November 12, 2014 (DDM) - A community-oriented climate change adaptation plan is being created for Sea Cow’s Bay.

The draft plan is the primary outcome of a Climate Smart Community Disaster Management Workshop that was hosted here by the Department of Disaster Management in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

EU Gives 20 Million for Disaster Management in the Caribbean

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 31, 2014 (CDEMA) - Disaster Management in the Caribbean region is getting a boost with a 20 million euro grant from the European Union. The funding has been secured under the ACP-EU CARIFORUM Natural Disaster Risk Management Programme, which will be implemented over a five year period (2014-2019) by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the Caribbean Development Bank and the Dominican Republic. It is expected to support the strengthening of National Disaster Offices and CDEMA in the implementation of the 2014-2024 Comprehensive Disaster Management Strategy.

Island harbour/East End Community Climate Smart Community Disaster Management Workshop

The Valley, Anguilla, October 28, 2014 (Department of Disaster Management) - As part of the CDEMA sponsored Mainstreaming Climate Change in Disaster Management Project Phase II (CCDM-II) the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is holding a workshop with the Island Harbour/ East End Community Response Teams. The workshop is being held at the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School and will be over the period Wednesday 29th October to Tuesday 4th November.
